CS220 Final Project
Introduction
The final project in CS220 will be to generate a 60-second computer animation. I'm looking for high quality
work that is illustrative of your programming talents. Some examples of both superior and inferior animations are
available here.
Groundrules
- The animation is to be generated using POVRay. The piece must be 60 seconds in length (1440 frames @ 24fps).
- Your animation must include at a minimum 6 objects that are animated. They don't all necessarily need to be
on the screen all at the same time. Use as many stationary objects as necessary to complement your animation.
- Your camera must show movement sometime during the animation.
- You must vary the lighting during the animation.
- You will need to create a storyboard which will show animation layouts key frames, line of action and timing.
This is not an art class. Your drawings may be really ugly, but must show the general layout to be used during
the 60 seconds. I expect to see not less than 12 key frames on your storyboard.
- Finished .tga graphic size should be no smaller than 512 by 384. You may want to start small during the development
process to minimize your rendering time.
- Use tga2avi to convert your animation to an .avi format. If you have another conversion tool, feel free to
use it.
- I will be giving you accounts on mathcssun.emporia.edu or mathcssun1.emporia.edu.
You can store your video materials here as you generate them.
- You may use external sources for objects, however you must give the source credit for their work.
- Your finished animation is due the day of the final examination.
- Your final animation should be put in RealPlayer format (.rm) to minimize the size and make the animation streamable.
Please see your instructor when you are ready to do the conversion. The process takes about 15 minutes depending
on the complexity of your animation. This concversion must be done prior to 12/12/03, midnight.
Dates
Please submit a storyboard outlining your ideas on December 1, 2003.
Demonstrate to your instructor your progress to date, December 10, 2003. Please make an appointment to see me
to do this.
You will demonstrate your video during the final exam period. Final Examination, Tuesday 12/16/03 - 1:00-2:50.
There are no other times that your video may be presented.
